The First District Congressman Andy Harris issued a statement defending his decision to vote against the extension of the payroll tax deduction for the balance of the year. The measure passed with bipartisan support.
“I support the tax cut element of the proposal. However, the other parts of the bill increased spending in 2012 by $45 billion, while taking 10 years to pay it back. That’s the kind of bad fiscal policy which got us into the mess we’re in – Washington has to stop spending money we don’t have.”
The measure passed the House with a 293-132 vote with bipartisan support.
